Before embarking on a career as an open format DJ, providing entertainment for a range of events and musical styles, DJ Funkomatic originally comes from a House Music DJ Background, with a huge vinyl record collection still to this day. HOUSE MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG

As a youngster, I visited Ibiza for my first taste of house music in nightclubs, which fascinated me, my parents picked the hotel complex opposite legendary Space nightclub, so I ended up sneaking in several times as the hotel gave us free tickets. As I became older and more independent I was soon an avid clubber on the Birmingham Club scene, frequenting clubs such as The Steering Wheel, Wobble and Miss Moneypennies, I used to watch and admire the DJs in these clubs with awe, so I got my first set of vinyl decks and my love affair with buying records and forging a DJ Career began.

I enjoyed making mixtapes for friends and starting getting invited to after parties as people knew I was always happy to set up my decks, then I got a few guest slots at parties in and around Birmingham. My record collection was really growing now (and costing me a fortune!)

THE BEAT GOES ON

Despite my career taking a much different path in the corporate world, I never stopped DJing as a hobby, making CDs, entering DJ competitions and being asked to play at friends parties. I also started producing music myself and actually got tracks signed by different international labels.

I also produced several DJ mixes that were tributes to the clubs that I visited such as Wobble and Miss Moneypennies that now have over 100k listens on platforms such as Soundcloud and Youtube under my other DJ/Producer Alias. Off the back of this I regularly got asked to play at reunion parties for Wobble, but also play at Club Nights such as Birminghams legendary Heritage nights. I’ve also managed to DJ overseas in places such as Spain, Thailand and Egypt on my travels.

I currently also host a peak time weekly show on Birminghams' very own ‘Brum Radio’ Fridays 8-9pm dedicated to House Music – it’s called The Groove Clinic

As more friends were getting married, having 30th/40th birthdays etc I was getting asked to DJ at events more and more, so realised I needed to invest in a sound system rather than hiring one each time. This was the catalyst to put me doing what I do today for clients, I have some of the best DJ equipment, and amazing mobile sound system… why not do this full time?

So that’s a bit of background that has brought me to where I am today. Doing a job I love and making people happy in the process. Yes it’s not always House Music, but I love so much music and so many different varieties of it that I always find some connection with my clients musically.
